There was so much laughter! All of us, all day long. I don’t know the last time I laughed so hard. The day didn’t start off so smoothly though. I experienced a small amount of panic when I showed up to the couple’s room at the Four Seasons and realized I would be the one tying up the bride’s dress. Sure, I’ve seen it done before…lots. And I’ve learned a number of tricks along the way that I have happily shared with others when they’re faced with the same task. But coaching someone to do it and actually doing it myself are two completely different things. It turns out I did actually know what I was doing – there was a huge sigh of relief. And after that the day got fun, really fun!
We started out with a helicopter ride up Rainbow Mountain. The couple wanted snow and beautiful mountain vistas – not a hard thing to find around Whistler. We picked a lovely spot perched high up on the rocks, just me and the helicopter pilot as witnesses. Or so we thought! Out of nowhere a hiker shows up in the middle of the ceremony to congratulate the couple. What are the chances of that? Once again, we had a good laugh.
The bride changed from her pretty heels to runners, we laughed. We battled the wind, we laughed. The couple made snowballs, we laughed. We laughed so much!
We finished up the day at the Four Seasons who set out the couple’s cake and some champagne in a private corner of the property. We shared a little bubbly and had a huge piece of cake. Some final photos and we were done. It was an epic day that the couple will be able to excitedly tell family and friends about for years to come. And that’s how you elope in Whistler!
